Reason to Love

This Amazonian native is sometimes called "trumpet tree" which refers to its tissue-paper-lie, trumpet- shaped flowers. There are more than 60 species of this beautiful, flowering tree with blooms that range from pink to yellow. The inner bark of both the pink and yellow flowering trees is used by the indigenous peoples of South America and revered by Western herbalists.

Some of our favor yellow Pau d'Arco commonly known as amarelo, comes from Bello Horizonte, a small village deep in the Peruvian Amazon. It's harvested in the late winter through the early spring before the seasonal rains make the jungle nearly impassable. The men cut and transport the bark back to the village where the women clean and dry it to be processed.

Pau d'Arco wild sourcing is done with great care, providing the community with much needed employment and income. The health of the forest is maintained through limited and selective collection and intensive replanting.
